Quartet Plays Big Role In Day Two

LAS VEGAS – A total of 10 top-five performances ensured California Baptist University did not lose any momentum at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Invite on Friday. The 13th-ranked Lancers in Division II head into Saturday's final day still in second place at the UNLV Invite with 593 points.
Justin Quiroga, Scott Tolman, Adrian Gutierrez and Bernardo Valentim all had a hand to play in two of those top-five swims. The quartet made up the fifth-place 200-yard medley relay team that clocked in at one minute, 32.11 seconds, and each member notched top-five individual swims on their own.
Quiroga gave CBU its second win of the weekend in the 400-yard individual medley with an NCAA Division II consideration time of 3:56.24, while Sakeri Holter placed fifth in the event (4:11.90).
Zach Parry and Andrew Rotundo grabbed two top-five marks on the 3-meter board. Parry took second with 277 points and Rotundo rounded it out in fifth (203.40).
Alexis Ohmar led the Lancers most dominant event by taking third in the 200 free (1:39.38). Valentim placed fifth (1:40.08), while Adrien Deloffre (1:40.30) and Robert Griffith (1:40.77) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, followed by Christian Britton at No. 9 (1:41.03).
Deloffre, Valentim, Griffith and Ohmar formed a solid team in the 800-free relay to take third in a D-II B-cut time of 6:44.81 in the final race of the day. Gutierrez tallied his individual top-five swim when he took fourth in the 100 butterfly (49.97).
Ohmar (53.19), Gutierrez (53.68) and Quiroga (58.29) added more points for the Lancers in the 100 back, taking a respective 13th, 15th and 16th in the event.
Brandon Doyle and Brandon Persky each contributed some more key points for CBU. Doyle took 10th in the 100 breast (59.93) and 11th in the 400 IM (4:27.87), while Persky finished 12th in the 400 IM (4:39.93) and 16th in the 100 breast (1:02.72).
