Lancers Win Fourth-Straight RMAC Title

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Projections were for a close meet, but California Baptist University blew those out of the water on day one of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships and finished off the meet with a 271-point win on Saturday.
Coach Rick Rowland was voted the RMAC Coach of the Year, while Breanne Schlenger secured conference Diver of the Meet honors after she swept both boards with a win on the 3-meter.
There was plenty to highlight, as Alena Rumiantceva secured her breaststroke dominance by winning her eighth title in her four years in the event, touching first in the 200 breast in an NCAA Division II B-cut time of two minutes, 14.27 seconds.
Mackenzie Mergel won the 1650 freestyle in an impressive 17:32.35, which was also a consideration time. Schlenger continued her remarkable comeback story with 456.90 points for the win on the 3-meter board.
Hannah Evans resumed her impressive RMAC Championship debut, with a runner-up swim in the 100 free (51.06) for another consideration mark for CBU. There were four more medal finishes waiting for the Lancers.
Christie Halverson, Grace Oeser, Hailey Golden and Evans finished third on the 400-free relay in a consideration time of 3:28.27. In the 1650 free, Tessa Olson (17:46.76) and Courtney Chacon (17:48.57) were right on each other to take third and fourth, respectively.
Kylie Mihld and Andrea Laliena finished third and fifth in the 200 back with times of 2:02.22 and 2:04.43, with Mihld clocking in with a B cut. Lauren Skinner also took third at the 3-meter board (425.50) for the Lancers.
Two other Lancers swam the 200 breast, with Rumiantceva, as Alex Wolf came in fourth (2:20.94) and Melody Coleman finished eighth (2:24.67). There were four CBU divers in the top eight of the 3-meter board, as Savannah Uhlir (357.75) and Janae Jizmejian (338.35) came in seventh and eighth.
In the 100 free, the Lancers placed four in the top-12. Behind Evans, Kristina Tchernyshev took seventh (52.22), Golden came in eighth (52.60) and Ariahn Givens wound up in 12th (53.15).
