Gonzalez Notches Weekly Award Again

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – For the third week in a row, California Baptist University earned the PacWest Golfer of the Week award, with Greg Gonzalez scoring the honor for the second time over that span.
It came after Gonzalez won the first tournament of his career at the Visit Stockton Cactus Thaw. It was held at the Brookside Country Club, which will host the 2017 NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional, making the Cactus Thaw a regional preview.
Gonzalez carded an eight-under-par 136 for the second-lowest, 36-hole score in program history. The junior shot 68 in both rounds and shot par or better on every hole, with four birdies, in the second round.
That second round was key for the 23rd-ranked Lancers to win the tournament. Ten teams went into the final round within 10 strokes of first place, but CBU shot 278 in the second round to finish with a 564 final, setting school records with both marks.
CBU takes more than a week off before traveling to the Las Vegas Desert Classic, hosted by the University of Missouri St. Louis at the Paiute Golf Club on March 5-6.
