RIVERSIDE, Calif. — For an unprecedented fifth-straight year and sixth overall, California Baptist University claimed the PacWest Commissioner's Cup, announced Wednesday.

CBU scored 164 points with a 12.615 average, an all-time high in the current 14-sport format. CBU won six PacWest Championships in 2017-18: men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball and women's golf. The Lancers also finished in second in men's basketball and softball, while baseball and women's basketball took third in the standings.
"This accomplishment was made possible by outstanding student-athletes, talented coaches, and dedicated staff," said Dr. Micah Parker, CBU Director of Athletics. "Five in a row and six in the last seven years is a great accomplishment. We've had to improve as a department each year in order to keep winning these."

The Lancers beat out rival Azusa Pacific for the fifth year in a row, after the Cougars finished with an 11.962 average. Concordia (9.8846) won a close race for third place, beating out Point Loma (9.5455) and Dixie State (9.2692).

It marks the last time the Lancers could win the honor since CBU transitions to NCAA Division I and the Western Athletic Conference this fall.

The PacWest Commissioner's Cup was established in 2007-08 to honor the athletic program with the best overall performance in that academic year. The standings are updated three times a year following the fall, winter and spring seasons. The competition is based upon average finish instead of point totals, a change that occurred prior to the 2009-10 season. Each school's points are totaled and then divided by the number of PacWest athletic programs it offers, giving an overall average finish for the school.
