CBU Accepted Into NCAA Division I Reclassification
7/13/2018 2:07:00 PM | General
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist University Director of Athletics Dr. Micah Parker announced the NCAA Strategic Vision and Planning Committee voted to advance the Lancers to year one of the reclassification process to NCAA Division I on Friday.
CBU will begin the first of four transition seasons to full Division I membership this upcoming year, and will also take up primary membership in the Western Athletic Conference. The Lancers first announced their plans for a move to the next level in a press conference on Jan. 13, 2017; Friday's announcement showed they're on the right track.
Part of the reclassification process means CBU will not be eligible for NCAA postseason play during its four-year transition period. The Lancers will not participate for WAC postseason competition in any sport which the winner is the league's automatic qualifier for an NCAA Championship (all sports outside of golf, cross country, track and swimming).
The Lancers left Division II and the PacWest in just about the best way possible. In 2017-18, they won the D-II Learfield Directors' Cup (after a runner-up finish in 2017) and the PacWest Commissioner's Cup for the sixth time and fifth year in a row. Parker recently appeared on the WAC All Access to discuss this past and upcoming season, check out the full interview below:
