CORAL SPRINGS --- California Baptist University's women's golf team landed six All-American Scholars, as announced by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) on Monday.
Belle Balkan, Diana Araneta, Jocelyn Chee, Samantha Martirez, Kristyna Abrahamova, and Sofia Chabon all earned the honor from the WGCA. With six golfers making the list, the Lancers set a new program record for most All-American Scholars in a single season. The previous best was five, which was set in the 2018-19 season and the 2017-18 season.
"This entire TEAM has been so impressive in the classroom," said head coach Marc Machado. "I'm proud to have such driven student-athletes in this program."
This marks the fourth straight honor for Martirez, while Abrahamova and Chee grab a spot for the third year in a row. Honorees needed to post at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average. The WGCA, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches.
It was a shortened season for the Lancers as the spring was cut short due to Mother Nature and the COVID-19 pandemic.
With only five tournaments under their belt, the Lancers started to play their best golf in the spring. CBU played its lone spring tournament at the Grand Canyon Spring Invite on Feb. 22-23, where the Lancers came home with a second-place finish and four players inside the top-15.
