The 2009 softball team was one of the most dominant teams in California Baptist University school history, let alone the softball program itself. That year, the Lancers went 61-5 for the third most wins in a single season at CBU, with a 36-3 record at home, 14-2 mark on the road and 11-0 record at neutral sites. They won the Golden State Athletic Conference with a 21-3 conference record.

Most importantly, the team went a perfect 7-0 in the postseason to win the NAIA Championship – the first national title in program history. As a group, the team batted .355, with 487 runs scored and 66 home runs. CBU also stole 82 bags and walked more than it struck out that year (210-199).

The Lancer pitchers combined for a 1.00 earned-run average, a program record eight saves and 41 complete games. They also struck out 445 batters, compared to just 102 walks.

CBU produced three All-Americans and seven All-GSAC player that year, including the NAIA and Conference Pitcher of the Year Tory Ferreira. Nikki Lowe was also named an All-American and the GSAC Player of the Year, while Mike Smith was named the GSAC Coach of the Year.
