In 2006, Nicole earned two individual All-American nods and two relay All-American awards and set the then school record in the 100-meter backstroke. She swam on the 200-yard medley relay team that won the National Championship and set the program record with a time of 1:48.07. In 2007, Nicole set records in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard medley and won an individual National Championship in the 200-yard backstroke with a record-setting time. Overall, Nicole is a 15-time All-American which ranks sixth most all-time on the women's side and finished her career as a six-time National Champion. Shipman still ranks in the programs top-6 all time in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events.
