Evylnn came off the bench to record a season-high 10 kills and lift the NAIA's No. 3-ranked Lancers to a 30-16, 30-28, 30-21 GSAC win Saturday night over Hope International.
The win is the Lancers' third of the week as they improve to 17-2 overall, 7-1 GSAC. The Royals fall to 6-12, 2-7.
After consecutive wins against No. 4 Concordia and No. 6 Missouri Baptist earlier this week, the Lancers were able to give most of their regulars the night off. They roared to a 12-1 lead to open the match behind a trio of aces from 2-time All-American Yudelka Bonilla, who also had 3 kills and 5 digs in just one game. The Lancers led 18-8 when Bonilla preceded a pair of Lindsey Siefken aces with a pair of kills to give the Lancers a 22-8 advantage before they settled in for a 30-16 opening game win.
That win prompted head coach Ryan McGuyre to use his bench over the next 2 games. Evylnn recorded all 10 of her kills in the last 2 games to key the Lancers. It appeared as if the Royals might steal a game from the Lancers after they opened an 18-12 lead in the second game. However, Deanna Bathauer put down back-to-back kills to start an 11-3 CBU run that was capped by an Evylnn kill to give the Lancers a 24-22 lead. The Lancers led the rest of the way, and Angela Willis finished the game with a kill.
Willis finished with a match-high 11 kills, while hitting .588 (
The Lancers hit .324 (51-15-111) as a team, while holding HIU to .146 (31-17-96). Evylnn hit .300 (
Back-to-back kills by Evylnn and Willis sparked a 7-2 spurt to start game 3. Three straight Royal attack errors made it 15-6 before consecutive kills by Evylnn and freshman Ashley Anders made it 20-10 Lancers. They cruised in from there, and Brittany Barton and Rachel Gowan connected on a block for match-point.
