SEASIDE, Calif. ? It had been 17 days since California Baptist last stepped onto the court and the more than two-week layover possibly played a roll in an 83-79 loss to Cal State Monterey Bay, Saturday.
The Lancers (5-2) ran into an Otters (2-4) team that hit 50 percent from beyond the arc. Monterey Bay's Alma Lopez went 4-for-5 from three-point range scoring a game-high 21 points. Jeanine Deno recorded a season-high 20 points for CBU. She hit three of her six attempts from beyond the arc and was a perfect 7-for-7 at the line.
Romeka Randolph and Erin Greenberg both scored 12 while Nicole Davis had 11. CBU struggled from the field hitting 36.5 percent (27-for-74), but hit 10 of its 21 three-point attempts. The Lancers were 15-for-22 at the charity strip while the Otters were 19-for-27.
CBU led 39-34 at the half after using an 11-0 run earlier to take a 28-20 lead. CBU took its biggest lead of the game with 17:13 left on a Brenna Hahn jumper that gave the Lancers a 48-40 advantage. The Lancers led 55-49 with 14:30 left when the Otters used a 6-0 run to tie the game at 55. After three more ties, the Lancers held their last lead with 5:18 to play at 72-71 before Monterey Bay took the lead for good with 4:39 to play.
The Lancers return to action Monday when they host Ohio Dominican at 6 p.m. inside of Van Dyne Gymnasium.
