NO HOPE FOR ROYALS
RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? Yudelka Bonilla led California Baptist with 15 kills hitting a .448 clip as CBU defeated Hope International 3-1 (30-19, 28-30, 30-15, 30-17). The Lancers (10-2, 3-1) had three players hit in double figures as Verania Willis hit 14 kills and Colleen Sweeney hit 11 kills against the Royals (3-4, 1-3).
Kayla Van Duyn had a game high 31 assists while Caitlin Parker had 16. Bonilla also had 20 digs. Rachel Gowen recorded a game-high five blocks.
Gowen broke a 12-12 tie with a kills that sparked an 8-1 run and closed the first game out with an 18-7 run to grab the first game of the match. The Royals rebounded in the second game and held a 24-16 lead before the Lancers stormed back to get within one at 28-29, but HIU closed the game with a kill from Debbie Beliakoff.
Game three was never in doubt as the Lancers climbed to a 19-9 lead and closed with an 11-6 run to grab game three. CBU cruised in the final game with a 12-4 closing run scoring the final eight points with Courtney McGuire on serve.
CBU now takes the show on the road next week as the Lancers go to Westmont, Tuesday, and then head to Azusa Pacific, Thursday, with both games tipping off at 7 p.m.
