LANCERS SWEEP EAGLES

LA MIRADA, Calif. ? Melanie Ahumada threw a complete game shutout in a 3-0 win over Biola in the second game of a doubleheader sweep, after the Lancers (22-2, 4-0) recorded a 10-3 victory against the Eagles (6-10, 0-2) in the opener.

Ahumada (10-1) allowed just six hits and struck out five while Amy Thomas (12-1) also went the distance in the opener allowing three runs on seven hits. Thomas fanned seven in the outing.

Nicole Shoemaker went a combined 4-for-6 in the doubleheader with a double and an RBI. Chantal Millard went 3-for-8 over the two-game set with a triple and a pair of RBIs.

In the opener, California Baptist jumped on the board first with a pair of runs when Sara Goforth and Millard scored. Goforth scored on Millard's single and Millard scored on single up the middle by Shoemaker.

The Eagles answered with three runs in the bottom of the first, but Nikki Lowe tied it at three when she scored on a Karina Slauenwhite single in the third inning.

CBU put the game away in the fourth with four runs and added three more insurance runs in the sixth.

In the nightcap, the Lancers made most of their three hits as Millard, Shoemaker and Maconachy were the Lancers with hits.

CBU scored its first run in the top of the fifth when Shoemaker scored on a sac fly from Allison Dennis. Shoemaker reached with a double before moving to third on a Slauenwhite sac bunt.

The Lancers added two more in the sixth when Maconachy scored on a Millard triple and then Millard scored on a Lowe sac bunt.

California Baptist will now travel to Azusa Pacific, Tuesday, for a 4 p.m. GSAC doubleheader.
