RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? Two-in-a row has a nice ring to it, especially when it comes this late in the season. California Baptist University notched its second straight win with a 73-55 win over Hope International.
The Lancers (16-10, 8-8 GSAC) got a team-high 14 points from both Brianna Estell and Brenna Hahn, who went a combined 4-for-5 from 3-point range. The two also combined for 10 rebounds with six coming from Estell.
Jeanine Deno was the only other Lancer in double figures with 10 points and she also grabbed seven boards. Kendra Morris was two points and two rebounds shy of a double-double as she finished with eight points and eight rebounds. Megan Bradford also tied a career-high with four steals.
The Lancers trailed just once the entire game and that was at 7-6 in the first half. The Lancers answered with a three and a layup from Hahn to take an 11-7 lead. CBU didn't lead by more than six and led by just four at 25-21 before closing the half with a 20-8 run to take a 45-29 lead at the intermission.
CBU opened the second half with an 11-3 run and took its biggest lead of the game on two occasions with the last coming at 58-35 with 8:46 left. The Royals answered with a 17-4 run to cut the lead to 62-52 with 3:45 left, but that was as close as Hope International came. CBU closed out the game with an 11-3 run to take the 18-point victory.
CBU forced 27 turnovers and out-scored the Royals in the paint, 30-18, and off the bench, 28-17.
