Keyser fired a 78 through the first 18 holes of play, sitting tied for eighth place and five strokes off the lead. As a team the Lancers shot 348 on the first day.
"Kirsten found a way to grind it out and score, even though she didn't hit the ball very well today," said head coach Lane Pace. "I was proud of the way she hung in there and played smart. We need to do that as a team tomorrow. Today was not the start we were looking for so in order to salvage a decent finish we're really going to need to play smart golf."
Keyser was poised to play her way into the Top 5 after birdieing the 17th hole, but a double-bogey on 18 dropped her back to six over.
Erin Barrington of Dallas Baptist currently leads the tournament with a one over 73.
Dallas Baptist also holds the top spot on the team leaderboard, shooting a 16 over 304 on day one. They are eight strokes up on the nearest team.
Nicollette Gino shot 88, Kayla Jech shot 89 and Samantha Peters shot 93 to round out the counting scores for the Lancers. CBU is 18 strokes away from the Top 5.
