RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- On Saturday, California Baptist University's men's basketball team took the time to host a free basketball clinic for kids at the Grove Communirty Church, bringing out huge smiles in the process.
Kids in grades first through sixth were able to participate in basketball drills taught by the coaching staff and players, including shooting, passing, dribbling and rebounding exercises. The youth then got a chance to show off the newly-learned skills in friendly competition.
"The opportunity to partner with the Grove and give back to the community was special," said CBU head coach Rick Croy. "I think our student athletes feel like they got more out of it than the kids did. It was a truly great day."
Each participant received two free tickets to a home CBU basketball game. The Lancers open the new season this Saturday with a home scrimmage against UC Riverside. Regular season action begins with the Lancers on the road, but CBU will return for its home opener on Nov. 16 against Saint Martin's.
