SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Just two days after it last played on the road, California Baptist University was back as the away team, this time in a closer vicinity. The Lancers took on Cal State San Bernardino, but fell 76-57 Tuesday evening.
CBU drops to 2-1 on the season, while the Coyotes improve to 2-0.
Olivia Weber led the Lancers with 19 points (9-for-13), followed by
Courtney Nelson with 12 points (5-for-11).
Darsha Burnside led CBU with nine rebounds.
The Coyotes opened with four unanswered points and held on to the lead for the remainder of the half. CBU pressed to keep the margin low, but walked into a 43-27 deficit at halftime.
Hoping to shake off the first half, the Lancers looked like a new team as they came out of the halftime break. CBU went on a 6-0 run, sparked by a jumper from Burnside and four points from Weber, to force a Coyote timeout.
CSUSB forced CBU to take tough shots, not allowing the Lancers to really get a good rhythm for a comeback attempt. The Coyotes held a 70-47 heading down the stretch and held on for a 76-57 victory.
CBU opens at home on Friday against UC Colorado Springs, before hosting Saint Martin's on Saturday, both set to tip off at 5:00 p.m.
