Lancers Top Preseason Poll

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — After catching fire in the postseason last year, California Baptist University goes into the new season hoping to still bring the heat. The PacWest coaches think the Lancers will as they picked CBU to win the conference title with 191 points — Azusa Pacific is predicted to be the runner-up.
Last year, CBU went on a tear to close out the season, advancing to its first NCAA Division II postseason and winning the school's first West Region title. The Lancers outscored four opponents by an average of 17.0 points per game to appear in the championship game. CBU finished the year as the No. 2 team in the division with a 29-7 record.
The Lancers return all but three of that same squad, including three Preseason All-PacWest choices: Kamille Diaz, Cassidy Mihalko and Courtney Nelson. The trio each finished the year averaging double figures, led by Nelson's 15.4 points per game. Mihalko followed with 14.9 ppg and Diaz rounded out the trio with 13.6 ppg, while also dishing out a team-high 4.6 assists per game.
CBU opens with some scrimmages and exhibitions before beginning the regular season on the road at Montana State-Billings on Nov. 13.
