Busy Home Week

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — There are just four home games left in the regular season for No. 22 California Baptist University, and three of them come within a span of five days. The Lancers host UH Hilo on Thursday to tip off the three-game home stand, with No. 13 BYU Hawaii coming on Monday.
Head-to-Head
CBU boasts an untouched 6-0 record against UH Hilo with last year's sweep—including the nationally televised 98-70 home win. The two other Hawaiian teams coming to Van Dyne currently hold the upperhand in the all-time series, but the Lancers will look to avenge earlier losses. Saturday's matchup with Chaminade gives CBU a chance to take back its tight 79-77 road loss in hopes of being two games back in the all-time series once more — the Silverswords lead 6-3. Against BYUH, the Lancers have only taken one game off the Seasiders, 84-78, which came last year under Coach Rick Croy in Hawaii. Less than two weeks ago, the Seasiders started as strong as possible — shooting well above 70-percent from both in and out of three-point range — and held on for a 100-87 win. BYUH holds the series with a 6-1 all-time record.
Rankings Roundup
After dropping out of the National Basketball Coaches of America Division II Top-25 Poll last week, the Lancers bounced back into it this week at No. 22 after defeating then-ranked No. 19 Azusa Pacific on Saturday. The Seasiders are the only other team CBU faces this week in the rankings, sitting at No. 13.
The first West Region rankings come out on Wednesday, Feb. 18, with the top eight teams in the region advancing to the NCAA Division II tournament.

Lancer Notes
CBU is excited to be back at home to close out the season, playing four of its last five games in the comforts of Van Dyne Gym. The Lancers put themselves back in the rankings after taking down rival Azusa Pacific — the then-ranked No. 19 team in Division II — 87-80 in front of a capacity crowd.
It was Gelaun Wheelwright's stellar shooting that powered CBU to take a 64-50 win at Hawaii Pacific last Monday, scoring 24 points on the night. He then turned around and kept his hot hand to lift the Lancers over rival No. 19 Azusa Pacific on Saturday, 87-80, posting a career-high 25 points to average 24.5 points per game on the week and earn PacWest Player of the Week. He went 17-for-26 from the field to boast a 65.4-percent shooting and knocked down nine of his 18 three-point attempts to hold a 50-percent from distance. At the charity stripe, Wheelwright was a perfect 6-for-6, sinking crucial free throws at the end of the APU game. He also snagged eight rebounds on the week.
Wheelwright leads four Lancers averaging double figures with 16.1 points per game, followed by Ryan Berg at 13.8 ppg, Taj Spencer at 12.2 ppg, and Michael Smith at 11.7 ppg. Spencer continues to be a huge force at the post, leading CBU with 7.0 rebounds per game and second on the team with 11 blocks on the year. Eric Nelson tops the squad with 25 blocks on the year.
As a team, the Lancers keep their opponents to 68.0 points per game, while averaging 78.5 per contest. They continue to top the conference with most three-pointers made, averaging 9.4 triples per game, while defending treys well by keeping the opposition to a 32.2-percent shooting.
Vulcan Notes
UH Hilo comes into Thursday's contest looking to snap a two-game losing streak. The Vulcans have the conference's second-best scorer in their arsenal, with Tre Johnson averaging 18.5 ppg. As a collective, UHH averages 76.4 ppg, but allows its opponents to score 77.3 ppg on average.
Silversword Notes
Chaminade sits just below UH Hilo in the standings and will face Dixie State on Thursday before coming to the Lancers' house. Frankie Eteuati is a major factor in denying other team's scoring attempts as he tops the PacWest weith 37 blocks, averaging 2.5 per game. As a team, CUH boasts an 82.9 ppg average, but lets its opponents average 80.5 ppg with games constantly coming down to the wire.
Seasider Notes
No. 13-ranked BYUH is currently on an eight-game winning streak and tops the conference with a 12-2 PacWest record, but will face an angry No. 23 Azusa Pacific — the Cougars fell four spots after dropping the 87-80 loss to CBU — on Thursday night and Point Loma on Saturday before taking on the Lancers. The Seasiders boast the PacWest's best scoring offense, averaging 89.9 points a game, led by Pablo Coro with 16.8 ppg — ranking fourth in the conference. Daniel Berger and Scott Friel also average double-digits at 14.0 ppg and 11.4 ppg, respectively.
