Finding A Different Way

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Predominantly a three-point shooting team, shots from the perimeter didn't fall for California Baptist University Saturday night. The Lancers found a different way, however, getting back to the lanes and pressed on to an 81-57 victory over Chaminade.

The win moves CBU to 20-4 on the season and 13-3 in the PacWest, securing the Lancers' spot in the conference tournament in March. The Silverswords drop to 6-14, 6-10 in conference with the loss.

Three Lancers finished the night in double figures, led by Cassidy Mihalko with 23 points (10-for-16). Kamille Diaz followed with 13 points (5-for-11) and Darsha Burnside picked up yet another double-double with 11 points (2-for-4, 7-for-8 FT) and 12 rebounds. As a team, CBU knocked down 30 field goals after being held to just four triples.

Tied at 8-8 to start the game, CBU started to break away from CUH by going on a 9-0 run to more than double the visitors' score line, 17-8. Diaz initiated the run with a three-pointer and stole the ball away to drive to the basket, giving CBU the nine-point cushion.

The Silverswords tried to hang with the Lancers, but CBU closed out the half on a 14-5 run to walk confidently into halftime with a 47-28 upper hand.

Looking to keep it rolling, the Lancers kept pressing and went up by 30-points, 72-42, with just under eight minutes to play. CBU went on a staggering 12-0 run as Burnside jump started the scoring spree with a jumper from Diaz. Megan Brown also got in on the action, driving to the basket in consecutive possessions for CBU.

With the Lancers very much in the driver's seat, the Silverswords tried to battle back, but CBU was too much to handle for CUH as the home team took the game 81-57.

CBU has one more game at home before hitting the road, hosting BYU-Hawaii on Monday at 5:00 p.m.
