REDLANDS, Calif. – With two games on the day's docket more than 82 miles apart, California Baptist University had a busy Saturday on the road in a Western Water Polo Association game at Loyola Marymount and a non-conference game at Redlands.
CBU split the day with a 12-7 win over the Bulldogs and 10-6 loss to the Lions to move to 19-9 on the year and 2-3 in the WWPA. LMU improves to 10-13, 3-1 in conference on its senior day and Redlands slides to 14-12 on the year.
"We were able to rally and showed some heart," Coach Kevin Rosa said. "It was a good finish, hopefully we learned something from the three games this weekend."
Brent Teraoka and Tanner Shore each scored hat tricks in the 14th-ranked Lancers' nightcap win at Redlands. Shore added two assists and four steals, while Teddy Forte and Jonathan Lotero both scored twice in the win. Joseph Moorman helped secure the win with 14 saves and five steals in the cage.
Both CBU and Redlands, the No. 2 team in NCAA Division III, played to a 4-4 tie in the first quarter. The Lancers grabbed a 6-5 lead by halftime and increased it to 8-6 heading into the fourth quarter. CBU secured the win with a 4-1 four-quarter run to grab the 12-7 result.
Loyola Marymount, the No. 20 team in the NCAA, won the first quarter 3-1. The Lancers fought back to within a goal of LMU, down 6-5, but it was too much for the Lancers to overcome. Moorman put up 18 blocks and two steals in the loss. Offensively, Lotero and Elad Gunya each scored twice in the game, while Shore chipped in two more assists.
CBU plays its final two regular season and WWPA games at home. Air Force visits the Lancer Aquatics Center on Friday at 2 p.m. and Concordia (Calif.) comes to town Nov. 12th at noon.
