CBU Opens Dual Season In Big Way

| By:
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Each year, Bakersfield is always a dual circled on the calendar because it allows California Baptist University to show what it can do up against NCAA Division I competition.

Domination in the distance swim events led the Lancers to a fine showing against the Roadrunners in a 176.5-123.5 loss in the first dual meet of the season on Saturday. Christie Halverson won three events, including the 400-yard freestyle relay to end the day to highlight the event for CBU.

Grace Oeser, Hailey Golden and Mackenzie Mergel joined Halverson for the winning swim in the 400-free relay with a time of three minutes, 36.33 seconds. Halverson started the day with wins in the 500 and 1000 frees, with respective times of 5:02.78 and 10:29.74.

Mergel took second in the 200 (1:54.83) and 500 frees (5:06.72), while Tessa Olson was top four in both distance events. She took third in the 1000 (10:50.00) and fourth in the 500 (5:16.77).

Alena Rumiantceva gave CBU a win and runner-up finish in the 200 and 100 breasts, clocking in at 2:21.80 and 1:06.44, respectively. Andrea Laliena delivered another Lancer win in the 100 back in 59.58, while Kylie Mihld (59.76) made it a one-two CBU finish less than .20 of a second later.

There were three more silver-performance swims for CBU, with Mihld going second in the 200 back (2:07.13), Courtney Chacon doing so in the 200 fly (2:09.96) and Alex Wolfe notching a No. 2 finish in the 200 IM (2:13.59).

On the diving boards, Lauren Skinner was top-three in both events, taking second on the 3-meter (241.65 points) and third on the 1-meter (251.70). Bre Schlenger took second on the 1-meter (253.65) and fourth at the 3-meter (229.35).
