CLAREMONT, Calif. – For the first time this season, California Baptist University took part in dual competition at Pomona-Pitzer on Friday afternoon, and also saw diver
Zach Parry qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships on both boards.
The 10
th-ranked Lancers in Division II defeated the Sagehens 213-87, and dominated most every event in doing so at the Hadelman Pool. Parry's accomplishments stood out above the rest, as he won both the 3-meter and 1-meter boards with 297.23 and 499.65 points, respectively.
"Zach did what he always does, which is dive extremely well and consistent," Dive Coach
Jeff Couto said. "He booked his ticket to the NCAA National Championships!"
Brandon Schuster came close to posting another D-II consideration time in the 200-yard freestyle, but was just shy with a time of one minute, 41.62 seconds, while
Alexis Ohmar touched second in 1:44.54.
Schuster would win the 200 individual medley (1:52.78) and 200 backstroke (1:55.68) on his own, while
Justin Quiroga finished third in the 200 IM (1:57.96), before also taking the 400-free relay title to end the day, alongside with
Adrien Deloffre,
Colton Babcock and
Jerome Heidrich (3:08.64).
The Lancers showcased their depth and dominance in many events, most notably on the diving boards and on 100 and 200 breast, 500 and 1000 free and 200 butterfly.
Quinn Birtles won the 200 fly in 1:55.83, while Quiroga (1:55.95) and
Riley Forristel (1:57.92) followed closely behind. Tolman (2:06.99),
Sean Foster (2:11.26) and
Ryan Schade (2:12.66) swept first through third in the 200 breast, while
Robert Griffith (4:45.01), Babcock (4:49.12) and
Josh Fluetsch (4:50.24) replicated the feat in the 500 free.
Griffith won his second individual event in the 1000 free (9:45.96), while Babcock (9:51.65) and Fluetsch (10:07.70)  touched in second and fourth. Tolman captured the 100 breast crown (57.35), with Deloffre (59.03), Schade (1:00.46) and Foster (1:00.57) filling in from third to fifth.
Quiroga (51.52) and
Jacob Leahy (51.52) added wins in the 100 fly and 100 back, respectively, as the Lancers won the 400-medley relay in 3:27.82, thanks to Leahy, Tolman, Quiroga and Ohmar.
Ohmar would also finish runner-up in the 50 (21.54) and 100 frees (46.92), and Deloffre was third in both events, with respective times of 21.76 and 47.74.
Garret Chew enjoyed an impressive day on the boards, taking second at 3-meter (258.23) and third on the 1-meter (257.93).
Zane Freeman was top-four on both, taking third at 3-meter (213.87) and fourth at 1-meter (228.08).
"The divers had an amazing showing at the meet," Couto said. "They did extremely well rounding out places one through three."
