HONOLULU, Hawaii – Healthy advantages in aces and blocks led second-ranked California Baptist University to a 25-19, 25-23, 25-16 sweep of Chaminade and was the final piece of a perfect regular season on Saturday.
The Lancers defeated the Silverswords in three sets to improve to 28-0, 20-0 in the PacWest heading into the NCAA Division II West Regional. CBU will learn if it earned the right to host during the D-II Selection Show on Monday after it out aced CUH 10-2 and out blocked the home team, 11-3.
Lauren Hackett and Madison Witt both had 12 kills in the win, while Hackett hit .357 (12-2-28) and added nine digs and four aces. Witt hit .500 (12-1-22) with five digs and four blocks.
Yagoda Jedrzejczak put up four kills and five blocks, while fellow middle blocker Syndey Marks added five kills and five blocks. Sydney Kralj posted 30 assists, four kills, two aces and three blocks. McKenna Witt also had four kills, seven digs, two aces and two blocks on the night.
CBU closed out the first set on a 5-2 run on kills from Madison, Kralj and Marks. CBU actually trailed 7-1 in set two, but a 10-2 run gave the Lancers a 15-12 lead. Two kills from Marks, along with two aces and a kill from McKenna, started the run and Hackett chipped in two kills of her own.
Chaminade came back to tie set two 16-16, but a solo block and kill from Madison and a Hackett ace fueled a 5-1 run that made it 21-17 CBU. The Silverswords fought back to a 23-23 tie and a Hackett kill and Nicci Hinderaker ace guided CBU to the 25-23 win.
The Silverswords managed to keep within two points of CBU, 15-13, but the Lancers closed out the match on a 10-3 run. Jedrzejczak had four points (two blocks, two kills) in that run, while Hackett added two aces and two kills.
