CBU Battles on the Road
1/20/2018 9:32:00 PM | Men's Basketball
IRVINE, Calif. — California Baptist University faced some adversity on the road at Concordia University of Irvine and despite battling for 40 minutes, dropped a 72-59 loss.
The Lancers drop to 14-4 on the year, 7-3 in the PacWest with the result. The Eagles improve to 12-7 overall, 6-5 in conference.
Kalidou Diouf (10-for-14) posted his sixth double-double of the year, finishing with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Jordan Heading followed with 13 points on 3-for-5 shooting. Danny King chipped in seven points as well.
Diouf's efforts helped the Lancers out-rebound the Eagles 36-to-25.
It was pretty back-and-forth to open the game, with CBU taking the first multi-possession lead of the night, 16-12, off a De'jon Davis jumper.
The Eagles grabbed some momentum and took a five-point lead, 27-22, but back-to-back treys put CBU back in front, 28-27. Diouf found Heading on the perimeter for the first one, before Heading dished off a pass to Gabe Taylor after being double-teamed himself.
CUI took back the upper hand, however, and walked into halftime with a 36-30 lead.
CBU faced some adversity in the second half, finding itself trailing 67-52 heading down the stretch.
Despite pushing up the tempo, shots weren't falling for the Lancers in the final minutes, as Concordia took the game 72-59.
CBU continues on the road to close out the month of January, heading to Azusa Pacific on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. tip. The Lancers return home on February 1, hosting the Eagles back at the CBU Events Center.
