RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the latest NCAA Division I Women's Regional Rankings on Monday morning, with California Baptist University moving up two spots.
The Lancers improved to No. 11 in the West Region rankings after taking fifth place in a loaded field at Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational. The Lancers finished ahead of 10 teams who hold spots in regional rankings.
CBU moved ahead of Pac-12 opponent California, which sits in the No. 14 spot in the West after being ranked No. 10 last week. The Lancers are the only Western Athletic Conference representative on the West Region list, with two Mountain West teams and eight Pac-12 teams comprising the top-15, along with teams from the Big West and WCC. Utah Valley (No. 14 in the Mountain Region) and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (No. 5, South Central) also represent the WAC, but in different regions.
This year, CBU has also posted better team finishes over SMU (No. 3 in the South Central), Harvard (No. 5 in the Northeast) and South Dakota (No. 4 in the Midwest).
The Lancers debuted in the West Region rankings at No. 14 on September 10 as a result of a second-place finish at the Mark Covert Invitational, the first race for CBU in the DI era. After debuting at No. 14, CBU moved up to No. 13 on October 1 after putting together second-place finishes at the UC Riverside Invitational and the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational. The release of Monday's rankings marks the third time the Lancers have improved in the West Region Rankings this season, and the fifth consecutive poll that CBU has appeared in.
CBU returns to action for the final time in the inaugural DI season at the WAC Championships on October 27 in Seattle.
