FRESNO, Calif. — Looking to keep momentum from the first day of the PacWest Conference Championship Meet, California Baptist University kept its drive and grabbed another individual title.
Simon Bedard won his first PacWest crown in the 1500-meter race, crossing the finish line in four minutes, 3.92 seconds, while fellow teammate and true freshman McMarshall Hartzenburg followed right behind Bedard, taking second place in 4:04.16. Both runners earned All-PacWest track honors with their top-three finishes.
Pierre-Louis Detourbe took fifth with a time of 4:05.28, while William Ernst, Anthony Lozano and Mirco Zenzen crossed the finished line in 4:07.10, 4:07.92 and 4:08.04, respectively.
In the 800-meter run, Mike Alukunyang and Bedard came sprinting in to clock in simultaneously at 1:53.22. Alukunyang earned his first career All-PacWest track honor in a personal-best time, while Bedard picked up his second of the day.
Hartzenburg would go on to take second place in the 5K, sprinting past the finish line in 14:51.71, also giving him two All-PacWest honors on the day.
The Lancers now will prepare for the Occidental Invitational in Los Angeles next Saturday, as more runners will look to grab additional qualifying times for the NCAA Division II Championships on May 24-26.
