Hartzenburg Named PacWest Freshman of the Year

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — California Baptist University's McMarshall Hartzenburg continued his impressive collegiate debut and was named the PacWest Track Freshman of the Year Tuesday.
The Capetown, South Africa native was the conference's Freshman and Runner of the Year in the fall during the cross country season and continued to impress in the spring track season.
Hartzenburg took two runner-up finishes at the PacWest Track Championship Meet to earn himself two All-PacWest honors. He finished second in the 1500-meter race in a time of four minutes, 4.16 seconds. Later that day, he grabbed second in the 5K, sprinting past the finish line in 14:51.71.
The true freshman provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championship Meet, but just missed out on a bid by three seconds.
