CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Four California Baptist University runners competed at their last NCAA Division II Championship Meet, which started Thursday on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.
Berenice Cleyet-Merle, Fruzsi Ladanyi and Anett Somogyi all raced in the 1500-meter event. Cleyet-Merle led the Lancers with a time of four minutes, 31.73 seconds to take eighth in her heat. Ladanyi, who was in a different heat from Cleyet-Merle and Somogyi, finished 22nd overall with a time of 4:35.87. Somogyi rounded out the CBU trio with a time of 4:44.11.
Unfortunately, the times weren't fast enough to see the three compete in Saturday's final race. Cleyet-Merle finishes her career as a three-time track All-American, while Ladanyi and Somogyi will look to help the Lancers transition to Division I and the Western Athletic Conference next fall.
Emeline Delanis also competed Thursday afternoon in one of the two events she qualified for. She took seventh in her heat with a time of 10:40.83, missing out on a spot in the finals by just four seconds.
Delanis will race again this weekend, however, after grabbing an automatic qualifying mark in the 5K earlier this season. The race will be one of the last of the meet, set for 6:35 p.m. Eastern on Saturday.
