CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After qualifying for Saturday's 1500-meter finals race at the NCAA Division II Championship Meet, California Baptist University's Simon Bedard grabbed a spot on the podium.
The junior Frenchman took sixth overall with a time of three minutes, 46.645 seconds to grab his first All-American track honor. Bedard came into the race ranked eighth in the event. His finals time was just .3 seconds off a personal best, but still quite a feat in muggy conditions.
Bedard made his move in the final lap of the race and came sprinting past three competitors to take sixth overall. He ran his last lap in just about 55 seconds and was .004 seconds behind the fifth-place finisher.
The Lancers now transition to NCAA Division I and the Western Athletic Conference in the fall.
