CBU Excited to Get Running in Division I

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — After establishing a dynasty in the PacWest Conference and making a name for itself at the NCAA Division II level, California Baptist University enters a new challenge in 2018.
The Lancers – who come off their fourth-straight PacWest Conference Championship sweep last year, along with a West Region championship and third-place overall D-II finish on the women's side – make the transition to Division I and the Western Athletic Conference this fall, looking to keep up the pace.
First on the schedule, CBU heads to Cal State Fullerton for the Mark Covert Classic on September 1. Two weeks later, CBU stays local as it heads to UC Riverside for its invite on September 15. It gives the Lancers another look at Division I competition as teams from the Big West, along with Utah Valley from the WAC, will be in attendance.
The Lancers close out September with a big trip to Minneapolis for the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota. It is one of the largest cross country meets in the country, with six collegiate races and four high school races, and will be a huge test for the Lancers. Last year, the Gopher women took third as a team at regionals and went on to place 19th at nationals, while the Minnesota men took fifth at regionals.
October just has two meets scheduled, with everything leading to the WAC Championship on Oct. 27. Two weeks before that, however, the Lancers have one last outing at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Oct. 13.
CBU then heads to Seattle to conclude its season at the WAC meet, hoping to pick up where it left off in the PacWest. The Lancer men have not lost the conference championship the past seven years and the women have won five titles, including the last four. They will have to dethrone the Kansas City men, who won back-to-back titles, and New Mexico State's women, who won it last year for the first time since 2009.
