RIVERSIDE, Calif. – After leading California Baptist University at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday, Annett Somogyi was named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Tuesday — the first such honor for the Lancers' cross country team in the DI era.
CBU put forth a strong effort in the 6K with the entire scoring five placing in the top-20. Somogyi finished second overall, crossing the finish line in a personal-best time of 20 minutes, 19.8 seconds. As a team, the Lancers tallied 44 points to take second behind the 10th-ranked team in the Mountain Region, Southern Utah (31 points).
The Lancers, who remained at No. 14 in the latest NCAA Division I West Region ranking, travel to Minneapolis to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational on September 29. It will give CBU some good competition as the Gophers currently sit 24th in the latest DI poll.
