RIVERSIDE --- The preseason accolades are starting to roll in for California Baptist University, as the Lancers were picked to finish fourth or higher in the Western Athletic Conference from three different sports publications.
Street & Smith tabbed CBU to finish third in the WAC, while Lindy's Sports College Basketball and Athlon Sports cemented the Lancers at fourth.
With the season slowly making its way to the front doors of the CBU Events Center, fans only have to wait 33 more days before the home-opener against Jackson State on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
Milan Acquaah, who returned to the Lancers after testing the waters of the NBA Draft, was picked as the preseason WAC Player of the Year by Lindy's Sports and the WAC's Top Player by Street & Smith.
Acquaah was also selected as an All-WAC first-team selection by all three magazines after leading the conference in points per game (19.0) during the 2018-19 season.
The Lancers made quite the splash in their first season as an NCAA Division I member, recording the most wins by a first-year D-1 program (16) that is considered an RPI counter.
As far as the other honors, De'jon Davis made the honor roll in Lindy's Sports, being named the preseason favorite as the best rebounder and an All-WAC second-team selection. Acquaah was also selected as the WAC's Best Playmaker and Best NBA Prospect. Brandon Boyd, who transferred in after a stint at Idaho State, was named as the WAC's Top Newcomer.
The WAC will host its Basketball Preview Day on Wednesday, Oct. 9, where the preseason poll and preseason awards will be announced.
Head Coach Rick Croy is scheduled to speak during session two at 12:15 pm (PST). Interviews will be broadcasted on the wacdigitalnetwork.com, with Croy's interview here.
The Lancers boast a packed home slate with 20 of their 31 regular-season games being played in the state-of-the-art Events Center. Last season, only eight other Division I programs had 20 or more homes games on their slate, with the likes of Houston, South Florida, North Carolina State, and Indiana, to name a few.
Season ticket deposits for the 2019-20 season are available now starting at just $99, with discounts available for youth (ages 3-to-18), CBU faculty/staff, and alumni. Deposits can be made at CBULancers.com/1920seasontickets or by calling 877-456-LANCER.
Single-game tickets will be put on sale to the general public on Oct. 14, 2019, with season tickets ready for pick-up at the CBU Events Center on Oct. 21.
