
Acquaah Named WAC Preseason Player of the Year

DENVER --- The Western Athletic Conference announced the 2019-20 men's basketball preseason polls and awards on Wednesday, as the Lancers were picked to finish fifth and junior guard Milan Acquaah earned the top honor as the WAC Preseason Player of the Year.
NM State was favored as the top team in the preseason poll, receiving eight of the nine first-place votes. Grand Canyon came in as second with one first-place vote, and Seattle U was picked third. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was selected fourth, the Lancers were picked fifth, CSU Bakersfield and Utah Valley had the only tie at sixth, Kansas City was picked eighth, and Chicago State rounded out the poll in ninth.
Acquaah, who returns for his junior season after leading the conference in points per game (19.0), becomes the first Lancer to earn the top honor of WAC Preseason Player of the Year. He was also named as a Preseason All-WAC first-team honoree by the coaches and WAC media. Acquaah was named the WAC's Top Newcomer in the 2018-19 season. This honor comes a week after he was named as the Preseason WAC Player of the Year by Lindy's Sports College Basketball.
Joining Acquaah on the Preseason All-WAC first-team is Terrell Brown (NM State), Carlos Johnson (Grand Canyon), Javon Levi (UTRGV), and Trevelin Queen (NM State).
As for the Preseason All-WAC second-team, that list is as follows: Brandon Averette (Utah Valley), Ivan Aurrecoechea (NM State), Terrell Brown (Seattle U), Jaylen Fisher (Grand Canyon), and Alessandro Lever (Grand Canyon).
