RIVERSIDE -- The California Baptist women's basketball team marched to a 5-0 record Thursday afternoon after defeating Northern Arizona by a score of 98-79 in the CBU Events Center.
The Lancers welcomed over 1,800 loud and excited elementary students to the CBU Events Center Thursday, the programs first of two Education Day events planned for this season.
The official attendance mark of 1,851 is the second-largest home crowd for a CBU women's basketball game in program history. Only last year's Education Day match against Utah Valley was larger, drawing 2,119 local students and fans.
The Lumberjacks led 14-9 early in the first half, but that would be the last lead NAU would hold all game. The Lumberjacks would eventually tie the game midway through the third quarter, but the Lancers finished the third quarter on a 9-0 run. They would build the lead to as much as 20 in the fourth quarter before the final horn sounded.
Senior Lexy Ram led all scorers with 32 points, a new career-high, on a very efficient 12-of-15 shooting from the field, including 6-for-9 from beyond the arc.
In all, six Lancers scored in double-digits, including Georgia Dale (16 points, five assists), Delacy Brown and Caitlyn Harper (11 points each), and Ane Olaeta, who just missed a double-double after recording a 10 point, nine assist effort.
Tiena Afu was the only player in the game to break through the double-double mark, scoring 13 points to go with 11 rebounds. Afu continues to put in the effort plays for her team with her stellar defense and ability to finish strong at the rim.
The Lancers as a team had their best shooting game of the season so far, shooting .514 percent from the field, their highest total this season by a wide margin. The offensive burst proved timely as the Lancers also allowed the highest opponent field goal percentage (.431) of the year to the Lumberjacks.
Including today's 11 three-pointers made, the Lancers are averaging 9.6 made three-pointers per game, which ranks them tops in the WAC and would place them tied-for-12th in Division I with Boise State.
CBU will host their sixth straight home game to open the season on Saturday when they welcome in the Gauchos from UC Santa Barbara. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
