Lancers Start Homestand Off Strong

RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University's men's basketball team had five Lancers score in double figures on Saturday night, as the Lancers kicked off their six-game homestand with an 87-68 victory over the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats.

The win for the Lancers moves them to 6-4 on the season and extends their win streak to three in a row. CBU came into Saturday's game with momentum on their side, as the Lancers snapped UC Irvine's eight-game home winning streak on Dec. 7 in a 68-60 showing.

De'jon Davis led the squad, posting his fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 16 points and 13 rebounds. The 13 boards by Davis passes his season-high of 12, which he set against Georgia State on Nov. 23.

Ferron Flavors Jr. was right behind Davis with 15 points, while Milan Acquaah, Brandon Boyd, and Reed Nottage all added 12 apiece. Acquaah was close to a triple-double, recording a season-high nine assists for the second time and six rebounds. The 12 points by Nottage marks a season-best for the freshman from Sydney, Australia, as he went 4-5 from deep.

The Lancers tested the waters early with the Wildcats but quickly jumped out to a six-point lead after driving layup by Davis. After leading for the first eight minutes of action, the Wildcats recorded the second tie of the game at the 11:25, 17-17, but Tre Armstrong hit the corner three to put the Lancers back on top.

BCU was able to grab another tie at the 8:52 mark, but Davis would spark a 16-4 run on another tough layup. Back-to-back threes by Nottage and Favors would end the run for the Lancers, giving them their largest lead of the half, 38-26, with two minutes to play.

CBU went into the break leading the Wildcats by 10, 41-31. The rebounding continued to be a factor for the Lancers, as the home team dominated the boards with a 27-18 edge at the break.

The Lancers were in full force in the second half, as the home team never relinquished its double-digit lead.

An Acquaah three at the 13:25 mark helped spark a 10-0 run that pushed the Lancers' lead to 20.

Zach Pirog was the benefactor of one of Acquaah's assists as the big man ran the floor for the easy, fast-break dunk.

Boyd also got in the action during the Lancers run of transition basketball, as Acquaah found Boyd wide-open for the three.

The Lancers finished the second half knocking down eight threes on their way to their third-largest victory of the season.

CBU will welcome Southern University on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 7:00 p.m.
