RIVERSIDE -- California Baptist hosted San Diego State on Thursday night to close out the 2019 portion of their schedule.
The Aztecs owned the only victory in this series coming in to tonight, and matched it with an 80-68 win at the CBU Events Center. The loss brings the Lancers to 8-6 entering conference play.
Lexy Ram played all 40 minutes against SDSU, notching team high's in points with 23 and rebounds with nine. Ram shot 75.0 percent from the floor, including going 3-4 from the three-point line and a perfect 2-2 from the free throw stripe.
Tiena Afu followed up Ram with 15 points and a career high four blocks.
Point guard Ane Olaeta scored 13 points fo the second game in a row, adding seven rebounds and four assists.
The teams were separated by just one point at the end of each of the first three quarters, but the Aztecs found another gear in the fourth, shooting 60.0 percent from the field and grabbing eight defensive rebounds in the final 10 minutes to pull away from CBU.
The final home record of 7-1 puts the Lancers in rare company as they are one of just 13 teams to win seven or more home games at this point in the season. The only other WAC member to join the Lancers on this list is CSU Bakersfield as they currently hold a perfect 8-0 record in The Icardo Center, where the Lancers will visit on February 5th.
The Lancers are off until January 2nd when they will travel to Las Cruces to open up conference play against the WAC preseason title favorites, NM State. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. PST start time.
