CBU Puts Together Most Dominant WAC Win Yet

It is the fifth 20-plus point win in the WAC for the Lancers and topped the 89-52 victory over Chicago State in the CBU Events Center on Jan. 12 as the largest against a conference opponent. CBU improves to 14-10 and 7-4 in the WAC to maintain a top-four spot in the conference standings.
Grand Canyon falls to 6-17, 4-9 in WAC on the year. The Lancers will end the week at home, hosting CSU Bakersfield on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Lancers shot 52.9 percent from the floor (35-for-66), 44.4 from three (14-25) and held the Lopes to respective percentages of 31.7 (20-63) and 19 (4-21). CBU also out rebounded GCU 45-32 and had a 45-12 advantage in bench points.
Per usual, the Lancers' ball movement was spectacular, with 22 assists in the game overall. It allowed 10 Lancers to score in the game and six to score in double figures. Caitlyn Harper scored a game-high 20 points to go with seven rebounds and two blocks in all just 20 minutes.
Britney Thomas finished with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Georgia Dale nearly had one of her own with 14 points, eight assists and six rebounds. Emma Meriggioli (five assists), Delacy Brown and Lexy Ram all scored 11 points each, as well.
After Grand Canyon took a 5-2 lead two minutes into the game, the Lancers ended the first quarter on a 15-0 run to lead 26-7 going into the second quarter . Dale started it on consecutive layups, while Harper scored seven of those points with the help of a late three-pointer.

At the end of the first quarter, CBU leads the Lopes 26-7 after closing it out on a 15-0 run. Caitlyn Harper has seven points, two blocks and two rebounds in just five minutes.

CBU shot 4-of-6 from three in the first quarter and held Grand Canyon to 18.8 percent from the floor (3-for-16) over the first 10 minutes.

The Lopes managed to cut their deficit down to 14, 31-17, with 4:18 left in the first half. The Lancers closed the second quarter out strong, as well, and built their advantage up to 27, 45-18, with a 14-1 charge. Ane Olaeta, Tiena Afu, Harper, Dale and Meriggioli all contributed to the run.

The Lancers never slowed down and built their lead as large as 47, 82-35, with 6:31 left in regulation on a three from Dale.
