Lancers Scorch Cougars

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist (12-10; 4-5 WAC) tied a team-record with 18 three-pointers, as the Lancers defeated Western Athletic Conference foe Chicago State (3-21; 0-9 WAC), 94-44, in the CBU Events Center on Thursday night.
The Lancers shot 18-of-36 from beyond the arc, tying the team record that was set earlier this season against Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 1. CBU has made 10 or more three pointers in nine games this season. Milan Acquaah, Jordan Heading and Jeremy Smith made four treys each tonight.
In the second half, CBU continued to push down the throttle. The Lancers expanded their lead to a game-high 52 points by the 9:21 mark. California Baptist cruised the rest of the way en route to its largest win by scoring margin (50) against an NCAA Division I opponent. The CBU bench contributed 31 points and 24 rebounds mostly done in the second half.
Acquaah, the leading scorer in the WAC, finished with a game-high 23 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field while going 9-9 at the charity stripe in limited minutes (22:52). He has now scored 20 or more points in 15-of-22 games this season. Heading registered 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in 20 minutes of action. Smith tallied 15 points along with three assists. Zach Pirog posted 10 points, seven boards, and two blocks.
The Lancers entered the game as the best free throw shooting team in the league at .778. CBU shot 18-21 (85.7%) from the line tonight. Chicago State shot 14-of-21. CBU finished the game shooting 29-of-61 (47.5%) from the field while the Cougars shot just 12-of-50 (24.0%).
Chicago State's Travon Bell scored a team-high 14 points on 4-7 shooting from three point range. Anthony Harris added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars.
California Baptist will host UMKC on Saturday night as part of CBU's Homecoming Weekend festivities. Tickets are limited as a capacity crowd is expected. The game will be televised by Fox Sports West and will also be available digitally through the Fox Sports Go app.

CBU jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start the game and never looked back. Chicago State was held to 14-percent (4-29) shooting in the first half while the Lancers shot 50-percent (14-18) from the field, including 11 three pointers. As a team, CBU dominated the glass, outrebounding Chicago State 27-13 in the first 20 minutes. Acquaah led the way offensively with 20 points in the first half.
