CBU Wraps Up Series with Pacific

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Pacific salvaged a game of its series at California Baptist University with an 11-4 win on Sunday afternoon at Totman Stadium.

Nevertheless, the Lancers have won three of their four series this season after winning the first three games versus the Tigers this week. CBU's record moves to 12-4 and Pacific improves to 10-5.

A season-opening 17-game stand in Riverside comes to an end for CBU with a home game versus Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Lancers will then head to UC Santa Barbara for three games Friday through Sunday.

True freshman Jeff Bruyntjens went 3-for-3 with his first collegiate home run on Sunday, while Luke Navigato and Ryan Mota both had two hits in the game.

Pacific took a 1-0 lead with three hits in the top of the first inning before CBU tied the game with a two-out rally in the second. A single from Rory Smith and walk to Bruyntjens put two runners in with two outs. Angelo Capolupo bounced a seeing-eye single up the middle to score Smith from second.

The Tigers scored the next 10 runs to take an 11-1 lead in the seventh. The Lancers cut into their deficit with a two-run homer from Andrew Bash and a solo homer, the first of Bruyntjens' career in the eighth.

CBU made things interesting when it loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth after singles from Rockefeller, Navigato and a walk to Bash. John Glenn brought home a run with a sacrifice fly and Pacific got out of the jam after that to end the game and the series.
