The Lancers secured their 16th win of the season as a program in its first-year of a four-year transition process to NCAA Division I status. It is the most wins by a first-year team that is an RPI counter (playing four or less non-Division I opponents on its schedule). Grand Canyon previously held the mark with 15 wins during its 2013-14 season.
CBU also announced earlier in the day that it accepted an invitation to a postseason tournament, making the Lancers only the second program to do so. GCU played in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament in 2014. The Lancers will host a first-round game against an opponent yet to be determined on March 20. More details regarding postseason play for CBU will be announced at a later date.
The Lancers played the majority of the game without Milan Acquaah, the leading scorer in the Western Athletic Conference. Acquaah was disqualified two minutes into the contest.
CBU did not back down, despite UTRGV jumping out to an 8-2 advantage to start the game on Senior Night. Junior Jeremy Smith scored six points early to tie the game at 8-8 with 16:13 to go in the first half.
Senior Jordan Heading was incredible with 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc in the first stanza. Heading's fifth three-pointer gave the Lancers a 29-27 lead with 5:16 on the clock.Jeremy Smith with an early 6⃣ points!#LanceUp pic.twitter.com/9qf6U96mWO
