RIVERSIDE - The California Baptist University women's basketball program currently has an unblemished record of 8-0 to start the 2020-21 season. In addition to CBU, there are only three other schools in the country with an 8-0 record as of December 27: Georgia, North Carolina State and Texas A&M.
The Lancers are currently on an 11-game winning streak dating back to Feb. 29, 2020. CBU is tied with Boise State with the seventh longest active winning streak in the country. There are only eight NCAA Division I programs with a double-digit active win streak. Oregon has the longest with 26 straight victories. The current streak for the Lancers is the longest for the program since winning 32 straight as a Division II member during the 2016-17 season.
The Lancers gained further national attention as they were featured on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10 Plays of the Day segment on December 15. Senior Ane Olaeta drained a 47-foot shot from halfcourt as time expired at the end of the first quarter of a contest at Pepperdine. CBU advanced its record to 6-0 at that time with a 75-67 win in Malibu.
