RIVERSIDE – Another dominant performance from the Lancers produced their fifth win in a row to start the season, topping William Jessup University by a score of 91-62 in Riverside. The Lancers took a 50-34 lead into halftime and really blew the doors off the game in the third quarter when they outscored Jessup 27-9.
Caitlyn Harper was the main driving force for the Lancers today after making her first start of the year. She netted a season-high 16 points and turned in her second four-block game of the year. Harper got it done down low, scoring 10 of her 16 game-high points in the paint and also nailing a pair of three-pointers.
Four more Lancers broke double-figures today as Ane Olaeta (14), Nicole Avila-Ambrosi (13), Taylor Wu (12), and Eliana Bravington (11) all chipped in big during today's victory. The Lancers came together to force Jessup into 29 turnovers, more than any other opponent since Westcliff on Jan. 17, 2019, who turned it over 35 times.
Olaeta led the game in assists with seven while also having another huge defensive game by racking up five steals. Olaeta now has 15 steals through five games, good for tops in the WAC and placing her in a tie for sixth-most in Division I.
BEYOND THE ARC
CBU sank a season-high 13 three-pointers today, led by Olaeta with three and Harper with two. Last season the Lancers had nine games with at least 13 three's made.
SHARING IS CARING
CBU dished out 27 more assists today, giving them a five-game total of 110, averaging out to an even 22 per game. The total of 110 is by far the most in Division I currently, with North Carolina trailing with 95, and the Lancers 22 assist-per-game average ranks them fifth in Division I.
RARE AIR
CBU led wire-to-wire in the early morning game, placing them in select company as they join North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Clemson as the only programs in Division I to be 5-0 at this point in the season. In order to match or surpass last season's mark of 7-0, the Lancers will need to keep up their exceptional defense against upcoming opponents UC Santa Barbara (Dec. 11), Pepperdine (Dec. 15), Cal Poly (Dec. 19) and UC San Diego (Dec. 21) before conference play begins in January.
