CBU Goes Fast on Senior Day

RIVERSIDE – Senior Day brought out the best in many Lancers, as California Baptist University hosted its final home event of the season in a dual with UC San Diego on Saturday.
The Lancers turned in several of their best times of the season and their history in the process, with three pool and four new meet records set on the day. CBU also logged nine new top-10 marks logged in the dual with the top-ranked Tritons of NCAA Division I, who pulled out the 158-140 victory. The Lancers end their dual season with a 2-4-1 record and will next compete at the Air Force Diving Invitational next Friday and Saturday before heading into the Western Athletic Conference Championships (Feb. 26-29).
Sophomore Rebeca Oviedo continued to be a driving force for CBU, as she had a hand in three of the meet/pool records set on Saturday. She did so twice individually, with wins in the 200 and 500-yard freestyles with respective times of one minute, 49.73 seconds and 4:53.95.
Oviedo also swam on the winning 400-free relay team, with Rita Smirnova, Hannah Houlton and Isabella Rhodes, which logged a record time of 3:24.67.
Rhodes also won the 100 free with a meet-record time of 50.98 and took second in the 100 butterfly (56.15). She also posted a new top-10 time in the 200 free, as she took fourth in 1:52.29, which ranks 10th in Lancer history.
CBU also won both boards, with Savannah Uhlir posting a new career-best on her Senior Day to win the 1-meter board with a score of 248.40 that ranks seventh in team history. Madeline Wiese won on 3-meter with a 240.45. Kiree Lowe finished second on 1-meter (246.38).
There were several dominant displays of depth for CBU, as well. The Lancers swept second through fourth in the 200 breaststroke and 100 butterfly.
Faith Brazil and Emma Lindquist both hit new season-best and improved their No. 2 and 3 times in CBU's all-time top-10 in the 200 breast. Brazil took second in 2:16.38 and Lindquist finished third in 2:19.30, while Alexa Melara came in fourth (2:20.08).
Rhodes led the way in the 100 fly, while Nicole Cienega was .03 of a second behind to take third in 56.18. Vianka Hoyer logged the No. 7 time in CBU's top-10 history, as she took fourth in 56.57.
Cienega also improved on her top-10 time in the 200 fly, as she finished runner-up in 2:01.64.
Emily Longfellow (58.58) and Lauren McKenna (58.91) came in second and third in the 100 back, while Hannah Houlton (23.88) and Rita Smirnova (24.15) touched in second and fourth in the 50 free, respectively. Smirnov also took fourth in the 100 free (51.92).
Melara and Lindquist both clocked new personal best and top-10 times in the 100 breast, as they took third and fourth in 1:04.26 (fourth) and 1:04.60 (sixth).
Martha Aguilar added a new top-10 time for CBU in the 1000 free, as she took fourth in 10:16.34 and also finished third in the 400 individual medley (4:29.78). Mackenzie Degn also took second in the 200 free (1:50.25) and third in the 200 back (2:06.59) for CBU.
