
Lancers Roll Past Cougars

CHICAGO --- California Baptist University rolled to a 95-53 victory over Chicago State on Saturday afternoon, as the Lancers swept the series against the Cougars for the second straight year.
The Lancers improve to 19-8 on the season and 8-4 in the Western Athletic Conference. CBU has now surpassed its win total in the conference from last season when they finished 7-9. Chicago State falls to 4-24 on the season and 0-13 in conference play.
Four Lancers finished in double figures, as the team recorded one of its best shooting performances on the season. CBU shot 59.3 percent from the field (32-54), 62.1 percent from the three-point line (18-29), and 92.9 percent from the free-throw line (13-14). This marks the best shooting clip from all three categories in the DI era in a single game. The Lancers' three-point percentage of 62.1 percent is also a season-best.
Milan Acquaah and Brandon Boyd finished with a team-high 22 points, going a combined 14-22 from the field. Ferron Flavors Jr. went 5-6 from the field and added a pair of free throws for 17 points, while De'jon Davis scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Davis moved up in the record books for CBU, climbing to No. 3 all-time in career rebounds with 831 in his four-year career.

CSU opened the game with a three to take its first and only lead of the contest. The Lancers took over at the 11:37 mark after Boyd gave the Lancers their first double-digit lead with a three, 20-10.

It was smooth sailing after that, as the Lancers used an 18-0 run to close out the first half. The Lancers went into the locker room up by 27, 46-19, and held the Cougars scoreless during the final five-and-a-half minutes of the half.
The second half was no different. CBU continued to pour it in from the 3-point line, matching their first-half total with nine made threes.

This marks the largest margin of victory over a DI program since the Lancers started the transition period.
CBU will host Utah Valley on Wednesday, Feb. 26, and Seattle U on Saturday, Feb. 29, for the final two home games of the regular season. The game against the Wolverines on Feb. 26 with be featured on ESPN+.
