RIVERSIDE – The College Swimming Coaches Association of America released the 2020 Scholar All-America Teams, and California Baptists own Jacob Leahy received Honorable Mention honors. The award recognizes students who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and were invited to compete at their respective national championship. Selections were drawn from 209 colleges and universities.
Leahy was pacing a historic Lancer men's team before the abrupt end to the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 outbreak. While competing at the conference championships, he had a part in all three men's all-conference swims. He took third in the 100-yard freestyle (43.46 seconds) and 100 backstroke (46.99) individually before teaming up with Sean Foster, Josh Walters, and Matthew Niculae to take third place in the 200-medley relay in a CBU-record time of 1:26.89.
"Jacob has been consistent for the last three seasons in both the classroom and competition in the pool," said head coach Rick Rowland, adding, "Jacob is among the athletes that have achieved a GPA of 3.50 or higher and achieved an NCAA "B" time standard or higher time. His cuts were in both the 100 Backstroke and the 100 Freestyle this season."
This makes back-to-back honorable mention honors at the Division I level for Leahy, who previously received first-team honors at the Division II level in 2018.
