RIVERSIDE – Anouk van Noord put together one of the best attacking performances in California Baptist University volleyball history, as the Lancers swept Seattle U in the Van Dyne Gym on Thursday night.
A senior transfer from UMBC, van Noord posted a team-high 10 kills on a .909 hitting percentage – comprised of 10 kills and no errors on 11 attacks. It's the second-best hitting percentage in CBU's single-match history and an NCAA-era record for the Lancers. It was not at all far off the record of .933 (14-0-15) set by Angela Willis against Houston Baptist on Sept. 2, 2006.
It helped CBU dispense of the Redhawks in straight sets on scores of 25-20, 25-11, 25-22. The victory improves CBU's record to 8-8, 3-3 in the Western Athletic Conference and moves the Lancers into a four-way tie for third place in the WAC's West Division. Seattle U slides to 3-14 and 0-6 on the year.
The Lancers and Redhawks will have a rematch in Seattle on Saturday at 1 p.m. to signal the start of the second half of the conference season.
WAC STANDINGS UPDATE
It was an exciting night in the WAC. NM State and Grand Canyon squared off, and the Aggies won in four sets to keep their first-place standing in the West Division at 5-1 in conference. Utah Valley faced Dixie State and the Wolverines pulled out the five-set victory to move into second place in the division at 4-2.
CBU, Grand Canyon, Chicago State and Dixie State all found themselves tied for third place in the West by the end of the night with identical 3-3 conference records. It should make for an exciting second half of the WAC season.
