RIVERSIDE – The talent pipeline which California Baptist University women's basketball Head Coach Jarrod Olson has tapped into in Wisconsin is no secret, having rostered nine Wisconsinites since taking over in Riverside in 2012-13. Coach Olson pushed that number to double-digits this season with the signing of Grace Schmidt, a six-foot forward from Ixonia, just outside of Milwaukee.
Schmidt, whose sister Emily played four seasons for the Lancers during their Division II era, has built a resume that would be an incredible accomplishment for any four-year player, but has done so in just three years of high school competition thus far. She is a two-time First Team All-Capitol North Conference selection, a Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-State and Honorable Mention honoree, and a two-time Associated Press All-State Honorable Mention award winner.
During the 2020-21 season, during which Grace and her Watertown Luther Prep team had to play outside of their traditional conference due to COVID restrictions, Schmidt broke the program scoring record, which now stands at 1,339 points and counting ahead of her senior season. Schmidt isn't just an abundant scorer; she is also averaging 13.1 rebounds per game through her junior season.
She also runs with the highly respected Wisconsin Lakers AAU team, a program that has helped produce the other three Wisconsin transplants on the current roster; Caitlyn Harper, Jaelyn Acker, and Mia Morel.
