DENVER --- After the first week of college basketball, California Baptist University's Taran Armstrong was named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week.
Armstrong, a freshman guard from Burnie, Tasmania, put on quite the show in his Lancers' debut with a near triple-double. He posted a pair of 12-point games to help the Lancers open the season at 2-0. He shot the ball at a high caliber, recording a 64.3 percent clip from the field and 80 percent from beyond the arc. Armstrong dished out eight assists in the season opener and followed that up with nine assists in the 95-66 win over Mississippi Valley State.
With 8.5 assists per game on the year, Armstrong leads the nation among all freshmen and is eighth among all players.
The Lancers are set to host three games this week, as Jackson State (Nov. 16), San Jose State (Nov. 18), and Northern Colorado (Nov. 21) will all make their way to the CBU Events Center.
