RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University softball is preparing for another big week, as it has five games on the schedule. The action begins with a home game against UC Riverside at Funk Stadium on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Sunday against the Highlanders just up the road at Amy. S. Harrison Field on the campus of UCR, and is capped with a home doubleheader against Long Beach State.
CBU and the Highlanders were each other's final opponents last season before the COVID-19 pandemic eventually shut down the season. CBU and UCR played a five-inning game at Amy S. Harrison Field on March 8, 2020, and had a second game scheduled for March 10, 2020, but that game was postponed due to rain. Two days later, the season would be canceled for good.
The Highlanders currently own an 0-6 record, a far cry from where they were just a year ago at this time sitting at 13-12. This year, UCR has dropped a pair of three-game series, first against Loyola Marymount, followed by Dixie State and is being outscored 51-12 in the process.
The Lancers will then take on The Beach, which has had more games canceled (five) than played (four) this year. LBSU is 2-2 on the season with all four games coming against the University of San Diego, each team winning its home doubleheader.
