Lancers Drop Final Road Contest To Lopes

PHOENIX --- California Baptist University closed out the final road game of the season on Saturday, as the Lancers fell to the Lopes, 4-0.
The Lancers are now 10-3-3 on the year and 8-3-2 in the Western Athletic Conference. With 26 points in the standings, the Lancers will finish the 2020-21 season inside the top-three. Seattle U and Utah Valley are currently tied for first at 9-2-2 in conference play with 29 points. Grand Canyon improves to 5-8-1 on the year and 5-4-1 in the WAC to sit in fourth place.
This marks the fifth-straight season head coach Kristen St. Clair has captured a double-digit winning season.
Karley Weeks led the Lancers' offensive attack, producing a team-high five shots with two on frame. Rola Badawiya recorded three shots while Tiana Hill and Ari Coronado added two apiece to their line.
Despite outshooting the Lopes, 19-11, the Lancers weren't able to find the back of the net in the 90 minutes of action. CBU also led shots on goal with an 8-7 tally.
"We hit a physical wall today as our back-to-back conference road trips caught up with us," said head coach Kristen St. Clair. "We've been on the road for three of the last four weeks in Utah, Texas, and Arizona and the fatigue started to take its toll on our legs. Today, we got behind early, but in the second half, our team responded with the heart, grit, and fight we know we have. This is a difficult lesson to learn but a valuable one. As a young team, we can't afford to put ourselves in the hole early. We'll put this in our rear view mirror and begin to prepare for our final match vs. Seattle U."
UP NEXT:
The Lancers will now turn their attention to Friday, April 9, where they will host Seattle U for the regular season's final game. The game is set for 2 p.m., and the Lancers will honor their lone senior, Rola Badawiya, before the game.
